Exciting update! We are thrilled to introduce the new members of our research team at the Halifax Infirmary. In July 2024, we welcomed a fantastic group of dynamic and dedicated research assistants. They will join our existing team with Chayce Sullivan, Aidan MacDonald, Maggie Byrne, and Ashton Ferguson.

Breanna Thorne, BHSc, RTR, CCRP – Research Coordinator

Breanna’s diverse background, encompassing clinical research coordination, diagnostic imaging, and education, has made her an invaluable team member. Since July 2023, she has been a proactive department member and has now embraced the role of research coordinator. She has expanded her understanding of research and is certified as a Clinical Research Professional.  Breanna’s focus will be overseeing an exciting, hands-on project: High-Dose Cephalexin for Cellulitis (HI-DOCC): A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Allyson Cruickshank, BSc., RN, MSc. – Research Assistant

Allyson is a registered nurse with Nova Scotia Health and a recent graduate with a Master’s degree from the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology at Dalhousie University. She intends to pursue a PhD in the future. Her research interests include child and youth mental health and mental health services. Allyson is deeply dedicated and passionate about improving the lives of children and youth through her work as a healthcare provider at Brigadoon Village and will be returning in September.

Mobina Ali, BSc. – Research Assistant

Mobina is a recent graduate of psychology and neuroscience from Dalhousie University. She has research experience through independent projects and with the Department of General Surgery at Nova Scotia Health. Before joining Nova Scotia Health, Mobina worked at the Dalhousie International Centre, where she led orientation sessions for over 300 new international students and assisted students with their inquiries. Sarah Holleran, BSc. – Research Assistant

Sarah brings her emergency medicine experience as a patient attendant at the Halifax Infirmary to our department. She graduated from Dalhousie in 2022 with a BSc in Biology, specializing in Marine Biology, and has since been involved in various science-related initiatives. These include the Discovery Centre, Mad Science Atlantic, and the Touch Tank Hut with the Back to the Sea Society. In addition to her lab work, Sarah is a home interviewer for the CLSA (Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging) at Dalhousie University. CLSA is a large, national, long-term study that will follow around 50,000 individuals aged between 45 and 85 for at least 20 years.
