Nova Scotia Health Research Fund – Spring 2024 Competition

As you know, Research Fund is an annual competition that aims to build research capacity at Nova Scotia Health and catalyze new research opportunities across disciplines and institutions.

Registration for the Spring 2024 cycle of Nova Scotia Health Research Fund is open until May 13 at 4:00PM on the Nova Scotia Health Submittable portal.

The deadline to submit completed application packages is July 8, 2024 at 4:00PM.

Principal Investigator Eligibility

Categories 1-3

To be eligible for Research Fund, the Principal Investigator must be:

  • An employee or affiliate of Nova Scotia Health, or;
  • A member of our African Nova Scotian, Indigenous, 2SLGBTQIA+ or other marginalized groups/communities.

The project’s funding category is selected based on the experience level of the Principal Investigator.

Category 4

Applicants to the student/trainee award category must be post-secondary students of Nova Scotian Institutions who are either:

  • already affiliated with Nova Scotia Health (e.g. medical residents or other student learners); or
  • willing to become employees of Nova Scotia Health for the purposes of their proposed project.

All student/trainee applications require a supervisor who is affiliated with Nova Scotia Health as a physician, employee, or Affiliate Scientist.

Action for Health Plan and Research Fund Priority Areas:

Priority will be given to projects that align with the Government of Nova Scotia’s Action for Health Plan:

  • Providing care for Nova Scotians;
  • Healthcare accountability;
  • A responsive and resilient healthcare system;
  • Addressing the factors affecting health and well-being;
  • Aging and continuing care;
  • Mental Health and Addictions;
  • Vulnerable Populations;
  • Expanding telehealth/virtual care;
  • Chronic Illness;
  • Improving access to primary health care providers;
  • Addressing surgical wait times;
  • Women’s health;
  • Prescription drug coverage;
  • Overall patient access and flow; and
  • Other priorities relevant to the Action for Health Plan not listed above.

Funds will be allocated to supporting applications from teams outside of Central Zone.

Support for Application Development

Pre-competition review and other grant development support is offered on a first-come first-serve basis. Requests for feedback from Research Development must be made at least 2 weeks prior to final deadline.
