The East Coast Research Event 2024

The East Coast Research Event took place on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at the Atlantica Hotel in Halifax, NS.
The keynote speaker was Dr. Laurie J. Morrison, a professor at the Emergency Medicine Division of Emergency Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto and in Emergency Services at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center.  Dr. Morrison’s presentation was titled “Science Shines through Translation: Appealing to the Scientist within…”

 

EMS Clinical Scientist Announced by Dr. Ron Stewart

During the lunch break, it was announced that Dr. Ron Stewart has generously pledged $1.3 million to Dalhousie University. The funds will be used to create the Dr. Ron Stewart EMS Clinician Scientist position, which promises to create a lasting legacy in Emergency Medical Services. This pledge builds on the funding of the Ronald Stewart Symposium in Emergency Medical Services Research in 2017.

Dr. Kirk Magee presented a dedication to gratefully acknowledge Dr. Ron Stewart for his generosity in the establishment of the EMS Clinician Scientist Chair.

2024 Research Awards
The Dr. Doug Sinclair Resident Research Award was presented to Royal College resident Dr. Renée Kinden for their presentation titled “Prehospital Mortality Among Pediatric Trauma Patients in Nova Scotia: A 17-year Retrospective Analysis.” Dr. Renée Kinden received the Top EMS Research Project award for this project at EMS Research Day in October 2023.

The Department of Emergency Medicine Top Research Award was presented to Dr. Kristin Kaupp, a Clinical Pharmacist, for their presentation “Antimicrobial Administration Delays in Patients with Suspected Sepsis in a Canadian Emergency Department.”

The Eleanor Fitzpatrick Award in Emergency Medicine was presented to Candis Lepage, a Research in Medicine (RIM) student, for their presentation titled “A Planetary Health Initiative to Reduce the Impact of Metered Dose Inhalers on Emergency Department Carbon Emissions.”

All academic awards were presented to recipients following the abstract presentations.
