Dr. Paul Atkinson is the NB lead of a national study that received $1.5 million from Public Safety Canada to examine drug-impaired driving in Canada.

Dr. Kavish Chandra was awarded four years of funding from the New Brunswick Health Research Foundation (ResearchNB) to develop an observational airway registry to study critically ill patients who have presented to emergency departments in Atlantic Canada.

Dr. Janet Curran and her collaborators received a $1.4 million grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research for a multi-province project to examine the effectiveness and implementation of a patient-managed discharge communication tool.

Dr. Jason Emsley received the Top Research Award at the 25th Annual Department of Emergency Medicine Research Day in May for his study, Comparison of Symptoms Associated With SARS-CoV-2 Variants Among Children in Canada.

Allyson Evans received the inaugural Eleanor Fitzpatrick Research Award at the 25th Annual Department of Emergency Medicine Research Day in May for her study, A Comparison of Rural Versus Urban Traumatic Injury Mortality in Nova Scotia 2011-2020.

Dr. Ryan Henneberry received the 2023 CAEP EUC Award, case report series, for his description of the point-of-care ultrasound diagnosis of a complete molar pregnancy presenting as first trimester bleeding.

Dr. James Nunn was awarded the Doug Sinclair Resident Research Award at the 25th Annual Department of Emergency Medicine Research Day in May for his study, Epidemiology and Predictors of Mortality in Burn-Related Major Trauma: An 18-year Retrospective Cohort Study.

Dr. Renee Kinden was awarded the Top EMS Research Award at the 15th Annual EMS Research Day in October for her study, Prehospital Mortality Among Pediatric Trauma Patients in Nova Scotia: A 17-year Retrospective Analysis.

Three DalEM members have been selected to receive a coveted All-Star Award from IWK Health. The 2023 awards will be presented on December 12 to Dr. Michael Young (DA Gillis Award for Clinical Excellence), Dr. Katie Gardner (Quality Improvement Award), and Dr. Doug Sinclair (Workplace Safety Champion Award).
