Dalhousie’s Postgraduate Medical Education office hosted over 180 medical students both from Halifax and Saint John at its annual career night on October 13, 2023, at Dal’s Collaborative Health Education Building (CHEB).

Through this event, all PGME residency programs have abundant opportunities to showcase their discipline, through demonstrations, videos, games, Q&A sessions and more.

In addition to learning more about what postgraduate residency training is like, after medical school, students had the opportunity to network and meet key people within the various specialties and subspecialties, including DalEM’s three residency training programs: Enhanced Skills in Emergency Medicine (ESEM), Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons program.

The three programs collaborated to create a display with two tables and program directors and residents on hand to greet and engage with medical students exploring the various disciplines. Students had the opportunity to practice intubation on adult and pediatric mannequins, to try their hand at point-of-care ultrasound (PoCUS) for various applications, to participate in a quiz, and to enjoy some specially made cookies featuring the DalEM logo, which were particularly well-received! This approach garnered an impressive amount of interest in the DalEM tables.
