A new study will shed light on drug-impaired driving in Canada. Public Safety Canada is awarding $1.5 million to a national team of researchers, led by Dr. Jeff Brubacher at the University of British Columbia, to conduct the in-depth study. Dr. Paul Atkinson, who heads the Dalhousie Department of Emergency Medicine in Saint John, NB, is leading the New Brunswick portion of the study, titled “Monitoring drug impaired driving in Canada through toxicological analyses of injured drivers.” The study aims to provide relevant data that policymakers and injury-prevention groups can use to inform policy and programs designed to prevent people from driving motor and recreational vehicles after using drugs.
