Advancing EMS CAre

Advancing Emergency Medical Services research represents a core strategic direction of Dalhousie Medical School’s Division of EMS. We strive to produce research that has an impact on patient care, while mentoring the next generation of interdisciplinary EMS research teams.

Our faculty and staff have research interests in system design, emergency preparedness, paramedic learning and critical decision making, and airway management.

Local and National Impact

Partnering with Emergency Health Services Nova Scotia and EHS ambulance operations, we form the backbone of the EMS research program in Nova Scotia.

The province’s Emergency Medical Services Research Steering Committee includes representatives from EMC, EHS, NSHA, Holland College and Medavie HealthEd, DHW-Health Privacy Office, and it’s chaired by the director of Dalhousie University, Medical School’s Division of EMS.

The Research Steering Committee reviews all EMS research studies proposed to be conducted in Nova Scotia. The purpose of the review is to provide feedback, identify resources required and support that can be offered, and to determine impact on each partner organization.
